Alrighty, back into the swing of things.
No lengthy waffle post this week, but there are highlights. It was a good weekend, besides the heat. Although, I can’t really say that, even though I died a thousands deaths in the incinerator that was Cape Town, the weather did get my workshop up to an ideal heat for painting. So on that note, I sanded down the one side panel with a micro fine sponge pad and blasted it with one last coat of clear, bring the total up to 7 coats, seems as though that will work. I then prepped and painted the other side cover, laying down 6 coats of clear over the course of the day. Now I just need to wait for that to harden up and then I can do the sandy sandy and add the last coat.
I also started prepping the tank, emptying out all the ick that has found its way in there over the last decade or so and cleaning to rust spots. There is still quite a bit of sanding to do to get the finish I want, but I am at least making progress.
Nothing beats a day sanding while listening to good tunes, drinking some beer and having the company of my farting hound.

Saturday was also the day I finally made up my mind about the rear fender. Cut it! Cut it back and see what I am left with, that’s how I looked at it. And I must say, I am glad I did. It looks a little weird on the bike, but I must say, I kinda like it. Especially with the spare tanks on the side.

Speaking of the tanks on the side, I MacGyver’d the tank on the flimsy prototype I made (yes I broke it) and stood back to admire it. Again, I like it.
Now it was time to start figuring out the sissy bar. This isn’t going to be a permanent sissy bar, it needs to be removable, so I will be spending some time looking at the template for the tank holders and how I can integrate the fasteners into those.
